Our Philosophy
We believe the early years are a time for children to just be. "It is about the present and children knowing themselves, building and maintaining relationships with others, engaging with life’s joys and complexities, and meeting challenges in everyday life. The early childhood years are not solely preparation for the future but also about the present." (Early Years Learning Framework)
Relationships are at the core of our everyday practice. We believe building secure, respectful and reciprocal relationships and working in partnership with families will allow the best possible outcomes for each child. We are responsive to children’s needs and scaffold on their learning and development by providing an intentional program and enriching environment.
We are strong advocates for children’s rights and see all children as unique individuals. We value inclusion and believe all children have the right to feel a strong sense of belonging.
We take a holistic approach in our teaching so that each child has the best start and smooth transition from home to preschool and from preschool to primary school. We incorporate early childhood theories, current research and best practice into our approach to make sure we stay relevant, informed and reflective.
We believe children should have the freedom to work at their own pace and enjoy themselves. Our centre is a place where children and families feel ‘at home’ and respected through collaboration, reflective practices and quality improvement.
Our diverse program enables children to work towards the outcomes of the Early Years Learning Framework, to challenge themselves and to build a sense of self, through:
Empowerment
Become reflective thinkers through research, inquiry and innovation
Foster children’s agency, wonder and love of learning
Guide children to feel valued, capable and to realise they play the role of creator in their own health and wellbeing
Include children in decision making to ensure autonomy, motivation, engagement and self regulation. Children need to see, hear and feel that their choices are respected, heard and considered
Engage children in a range of physical activities to challenge themselves and become aware of their own bodies and capabilities
Self Expression
Working holistically to enhance self confidence and be valued members of society
Sharing their thoughts, emotions and ideas in all that they do
Developing self expression through innovation, art, music, construction and imaginary play
Using science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to discover the world they live in
Encouraging children to express their identity, diversity and culture through an inclusive program
Relationships
Understanding the importance of collaboration and treating others with dignity, empathy and respect
Having a strong connection to family and community
Building resilience and responsibility through nurturing, warm and responsive interactions with children
Understanding the link between children's social and emotional development and how this impacts on their wellbeing now and into the future
Guiding children to develop strong relationships with a focus on language, social skills and emotional maturity
The Natural World
Acquire a love for the natural environment and the role it plays in a sustainable future
Appreciate all elements of the natural world and gain respect for the land
Incorporate the latest research which shows that children’s social, psychological, academic and physical health is positively impacted when they have daily contact with nature
Develop knowledge in relation to seasons, produce and healthy eating
Understanding the link between animals and the land, life cycles and the impact humans have on the earth
